The GfGD University Group in Oxford was launched in September/October 2012 by two of our most experienced Ambassadors, Tim Middleton and Claire Fyson, who established and developed the first GfGD University Group in Cambridge also.

Luke is a 2nd year Earth Sciences student, with his main interests so far being in climate, oceanography and geochemistry. Luke has some experience of charity work in the summer of 2013 when he took part in an expedition to Ghana. He is looking forward to learning more about the contribution the geosciences can make towards global development.

GfGD Ambassador - GEMMA WARDLE

Gemma is a third year studying Earth Sciences at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. She has a keen interest in geopolitics and development, and hopes that she can use the knowledge and skills she has gained during her degree to pursue this as a career. Last summer Gemma visited Arctic Norway and saw the impacts that climate change is having on the environment and people there. This summer she spent five weeks in Perm, Russia, two of which were in Siberia, visiting mines and exploring the impact these had on the local environment and towns. During her time as a GfGD ambassador Gemma hopes to show other geologists that they can use their degree in sectors other than mining and oil and that the skills are applicable to a wide range of careers.
