GfGD is pleased to announce the development of a short, open-access module on ‘Geoscience and Sustainable Development’ to be shared with universities across the UK and beyond.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Natasha Dowey and Dr Sarah Gordon have been appointed to our Board of Trustees, joining Nic Bilham, Flo Bullough, Marie Flemming, and Kirsty Dawkes in overseeing the work of Geology for Global Development (GfGD).

Our 7th Annual Conference, hosted at The Geological Society explored the role of the Earth sciences in helping to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 3, ensuring ‘Good Health and Well-being’.

Gerald, an MSc student from Malawi, complete his thesis evaluating the sustainability of water projects in rural Tanzania on behalf of The Eleanor Foundation, at Cranfield University.

As part of our international work in Guatemala, we provided 11 scholarships to facilitate attendance in this congress. Scholarships supported 11 Guatemalan and Mexican participants, including students and representatives of government organisations, NGOs, and teachers.

Last week, Geology for Global Development led an international delegation of early-career Earth scientists to the United Nations, to engage in their Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.

Working with the American Geophysical Union (AGU), Geology in the Public Interest, Geological Society of London and others, we helped to deliver and facilitate this Summit in Stockholm, exploring how geoscientists can help tackle global and local sustainability challenges.
