Geology for Global Development Partners with GIGS for Sustainable Geoscience in West Africa

Geology for Global Development (GfGD) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Gesina Initiative for Geosciences Sustainability (GIGS), part of GESINA International, to promote the role of geoscience in sustainable development within Nigeria and across West Africa.

This partnership aligns with GfGD’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and GIGS’s mission to empower geoscientists in the region. The collaboration is poised to deliver a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing policy engagement, increasing educational opportunities, and strengthening national geoscience legislation and societies.

Joel Gill, CEO of GfGD, stated: “GfGD is delighted to partner with GIGS. We are already working to develop a number of exciting initiatives together to promote geoscience in sustainable development in both Nigeria and more broadly across West Africa, and we look forward to strengthening our collaboration in the coming years"

Agogo, the Director of GIGS, added: “Thrilled to announce the partnership between GIGS and Geology for Global Development (GfGD) in West Africa, forging a path towards sustainable geosciences solutions. Together, we'll harness the power of collaboration to drive positive change for our planet and its people.”

The collaboration will leverage GfGD’s global network and GIGS’s regional influence to engage with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Mining and Geoscience Society, and look forward to potential participation in significant events such as the Geological Society of Africa’s symposium.
