Calling all geoscientists: Share your perspectives in advance of the 2026 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)
We are coordinating a survey in advance of the HLPF, to identify common priorities of the global geoscience community and to present them to an international policy audience.
Complete our survey by clicking HERE. Deadline for completion: 31 March 2026.
The HLPF is a major gathering of UN member states, UN agencies, and other sustainability stakeholders. This year, there will be an in-depth review of five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 6. Clean water and sanitation
SDG 7. Affordable and clean energy
SDG 9. Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
SDG 11. Sustainable cities and communities
SDG 17. Partnership for the Goals
Geoscientists are key enablers of these and other aspects of sustainable development. Our understanding of Earth’s structure, processes, and resources, and how life of all kinds interacts with Earth systems is fundamental to the responsible management of our planet’s natural systems.
In special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, we regularly engage in the HLPF and the preceding UN Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs. To inform GfGD’s engagement in 2026, we are keen to hear from the global geoscience community. Responses may be used to inform policy-briefs and written / oral statements submitted in advance of the UN Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs, High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the UN Water Conference, and other intergovernmental meetings.
Deadline for completion: 31 March 2026
